As part of my marketing strategy to promote my blogging business, I spend some of my time networking. As a result, I have met some wonderful people working in all sorts of businesses. With my innate interest in “all things business” I invited Seb Reynolds, personal trainer, to tell me his business story. Here it is…
With personal trainer, Seb Reynolds, it’s all about sport and fitness – but preferably in the great outdoors!
A rugby player at heart, Seb has 12 years’ experience in helping people achieve their weight and fitness goals as a personal fitness instructor. He holds a Level 3 accreditation from Premier, the global leading educational body for personal trainers. He is also qualified in nutrition and sports massage therapy.
After some time spent working in health clubs and gyms, Seb recognised the new trend in exercising and training outdoors. After working and playing rugby in New Zealand, he saw this as a unique opportunity to offer something entirely different to groups, enabling them to get together, work hard and have fun whilst still achieving their fitness goals.
He launched Go Physical in 2009, and he has not looked back.
What is outdoor fitness?
Outdoor fitness is about getting outside in the fresh air to tone up, lose weight and achieve your fitness goals with a group of like-minded people. Think of it as exercising in ‘nature’s gym’.
Seb’s outdoor fitness courses are designed to cater for almost any age group and all fitness levels. His focus is on fun, hard work and variety in order to help you achieve your fitness goals. He forms close bonds with his clients; he gains an understanding of where they are now and where they want to go. His role as personal trainer is to gauge what ticks each person’s boxes, and he takes them on their own individual fitness journey to their ultimate goal. Each class is different, and in each class every client achieves something.
Tell me more about Seb’s outdoor fitness sessions
It’s all about good honest fitness training methods, designed to maximise the workout time. Physical fitness improves focus, confidence and performance. Whatever your goals might be, regular exercise helps you to achieve them.
The classes – which are run as part of a course – enhance aerobic capacity, leaving you feeling fitter, with increased strength and a greater capacity for endurance. The classes are great fatburners, using up to 500+ calories per session.
Are they a bit like “boot camps”?
They are based on the ‘boot camp’ format. The classes might include any or all of the following, all of which are provided by Seb himself or the natural outdoor environment: circuit training, boxing, battling ropes, kettlebells, weights, hills, slopes and steps.
Seb’s skill as a personal trainer is in knowing exactly where each individual sits on the fitness scale and what their capabilities are, and in motivating them to take the next step towards their personal fitness goal. In the same session, he might task one client with running two laps of a rugby pitch at the same time as tasking another with skipping.
When and where do Seb’s outdoor fitness sessions take place?
The courses run in Ascot and Reading on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays at 6am and 9am for 5-6 week periods. The 6am sessions are designed specifically for office workers who timetable their exercise around their working hours; the 9am sessions cater for people available throughout traditional office hours. Both groups welcome men and women of all fitness levels.
What can I hope to achieve by joining?
Seb believes the combination of fresh air, team atmosphere and enjoyment knocks exercising in the gym right out of the park!
Over the years, Seb has seen his clients and, in particular, his “six o’clockers” renew their course membership time and time again. Some of them have even run marathons which would previously have been considered beyond their reach. One lady in her mid-forties recently lost 22lbs and 5” around the waist and has now completed several half marathons and a marathon.
In February, the group undertook the “30 day plank challenge”. ‘Planking’ is about strengthening your abdomen; the challenge is in building up your time holding the plank position so that, by the end of the month, you can hold it for 4 minutes. Seb is happy to report they achieved their group goal… No mean feat!
Want to give it a go?
You might not be thinking of running any marathons or holding the plank (just yet!) but you might like to consider signing up for a free trial session to boost your fitness. You can be assured of a warm welcome by Seb and the whole group.
There’s a 4 day kick course for summer starting on Monday 7th April 2014, 6pm-7pm at The Redingensians Rugby Club, Old Bath Road, Sonning RG4 6TQ. Summer Special price – £39. This could be just the opportunity you need to start your outdoor fitness programme.
